A HISTORY OF FHYOUTH.ORG
This website was developed in the summer 2002 with the intention of providing access to information about opportunities for youth who live in Franklin and Hampshire Counties. The intention was to create a place where young people could find information on jobs, internships, volunteering, choosing a career, finding training, and other useful links to related websites.
The website is sponsored by the Franklin Hampshire Youth Career Connections Council; whose mission is to “ensure the prosperity of Franklin, Hampshire, and North Quabbin youth by increasing youth ‘connectedness,’ enhancing school-community youth engagement strategies, and improving youth education and employment prospects. ”
The Council is hosted by The Franklin Hampshire Regional Employment Board and brings together community organizations, workforce development partners, schools, and private businesses to advocate for the education and career development of young people in Hampshire and Franklin Counties. The Council oversees several programs , and serves as the recommending body to the Regional Employment Board for youth workforce funding in our region. School-to-Work Connecting Activities, Northampton YouthWorks, Summer Jobs and Beyond: Career Pathways for Youth, and Workforce Inovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Programs for disadvantaged youth with barriers to employment, are all supported by
the work of the Council.
The Council is comprised of Regional Employment Board representatives and staff, Career Center leadership and staff, representatives from adult, secondary, and higher education, and multiple youth and community serving organizations. It is an excellent opportunity for area youth supporters to network with both private sector and community-based organizations who are eager to support students in our schools and community. The Council holds four regular meetings and one summer youth event per year and is hub for individuals and agencies who serve youth.
